August 24, 2006The Finnish Brazilian Trade Association and the Brazilian Embassy in Finland are arranging their yearly happening on Thursday 24th of August 2006 from 15:30. The venue is on Kansallissali Aleksanterinkatu 44, 00100 Helsinki.
The Finnish Ambassador in Brazil, Hannu Uusi-Videnoja, will give an outline on the contemporary Brazilian business environment and the Brazilian ambassador in Helsinki Luiz Sergio Gama Figueira will produce a comment. After the outline, the regional Managing Director of Banco do Brasil in London, Mr. Osanan Lima Barros Filho, will give a presentation on the following topic: “Brazilian biomass energy, especially biodiesel and ethanol”. Finally we intend to invite a Finnish expert to comment the presentation.

At the event Finland's ambassador to Brazil Hannu Uusi-Videnoja presented his yearly review on Brazilian business and cultural envinronment whereafter Brazil's ambassador to Finland Luiz Henrique Pereira da Fonseca offered his remarks. After the review Hanna Tuomisto, senior scholar (dosentti) at the department of biology at University of Turku held a presentation on "What a business leader should know about the Amazon rainforests?" Finally we had an opportunity to hear José Alberto Machado from SUFRAMA on doing business in Manaus Free Trade Zone.

Stora Enso director Magnus Diesen spoke about the Veracel project whereafter minister Luiz Fernando Furlan held a presentation. The event continued with a discussion on current topics with the minister. The ambassadors Fonseca and Uusi-Videnoja also participated in the discussion.

Brazilian pianist João Carlos Assis Brasil in concert at the concert hall of Sibelius Academy. The concert was a part of celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the migration of the first Finns to Penedo in Brazil. The event was sponsored by Alhstrom Corporation and supported by the Brazilian Government.
João Carlos Assis Brasil is an extraordinary composer and interpreter, recognized nationally and internationally. Having a house in Penedo, he has developed, since his childhood, strong links with Finland. He is one of the very few musicians in the world who can play with virtuosity classical and popular music.
